ISSUE 2 NOW AVAILABLE

Insights and memories from the industrial scene in the 70s and 80s and what they are doing now PLUS exclusive CD

Issue 2  sets a new standard. Reminiscences and anecdotes, rare photos and insights, all relating to the early 80's industrial scene – capturing and preserving these stories matters, because we won't be witnessing this again. D-Generation does that so well.

here are just some of the articles in issue #2

Dorothy "Max" Prior

COUM Transmissions are tonight going to commit artistic suicide and then rise phoenix-like from the ashes, reinventing themselves as Throbbing Gristle.

Mark Perry

I first heard about Genesis P-Orridge and Throbbing Gristle from Gene October, lead singer of the punk band Chelsea.

Sinan Revell

Sinan Leong was born December 1, ~1948 in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province China, the 5th of 6 children. They fled China in 1952.

Paul Lemos

The band that would begin its existence with Knees and Bones, around 1983, developed after an earlier line up imploded.

Val Denham

Thematically dreams appear in your titles and in your pictures frequently, so obviously, dreams are very important to you.

Mykel Boyd

Not quite a Cut- Up, but cut up. I would hope that it could be a starting point for those unaware of the books, music and artists I talk about.

Final Academy

The Final Academy consisted of a series of main events over four days at The Ritzy Cinema, Brixton: 29th September to 2nd October, 1982.

Einstürzende Neubauten

Their earliest footage filmed in 1981 features just Blixa Bargeld and N U Unruh playing a version of Hor Mit Schmerzen (Listen With Pain).

Myself (on Korg MS1 synth), Chris (playing drums in local punk bands since his early teens) and a work friend named Vince Shell (bass) started a group in the spring of 1982 called Tone Death.

Who created D-Generation Bookzine?

D-Generation Bookzine is created by Kevin Thorne (Third Door From The Left, we be echo). He began recording music in 1979 after meeting his bandmate Raye at the Throbbing Gristle / Cabaret Voltaire / Rema Rema show at the Central YMCA on 3 August 1979.

After leaving school, Kevin worked as a graphic designer, producing artwork for several Chris & Cosey albums and singles. He continues to work as a designer today and remains very active in music. His past and current releases can be found at webeecho.bandcamp.com .

Kevin was also one of the 23 invited guests present at the recording of Throbbing Gristle’s classic Heathen Earth album.

Why create D-Generation Bookzine?

Kevin says it best “I felt like something was missing. There weren’t enough personal stories about this hugely important time in music. I was there, but I didn’t appreciate it as much as I should have, and that still bothers me. I wanted to hear from other people who were there too, as well as friends I'd made along the way, and share their memories with anyone interested in this music — and let people know what became of them and what they’re doing now. I also wanted it to be something physical, not just another webpage, something you could feel, hold in your hands, and thumb through as well as read from start to finish. A real collectible.”

Who publishes D-Generation Bookzine?

D-Generation Bookzine is a 96 page high quality A5 perfect bound heavyweight magazine printed by Kim Wah Yuen (Ultramail Prod) - you can buy issues directly from him or myself - or visit one of our distributors (linked to above).

Unfortunately, shipping is a major factor in pricing - this is a weighty little beast. We are doing what we can to get better rates.
